Fund Raising Ideas

There are lots of fun, effective ways to help nurses in need. Here are a few recent activities that nurses, acting alone, part of a small group, or at a large institution, developed to raise much-needed funds for Nurses House.

Honor a nursing colleague or friend

Several friends of Colonel Eileen M. Bonner AUS (ret.), seen swimming with dolphins in Cozumel, Mexico, made generous gifts to Nurses House in her name. “It’s a gift that just keeps on helping nurses,” says Bonner, a long-term Nurses House supporter.

Make a donation in lieu of gift-giving 

Nurses House Board Director Linda O’Brien opted to honor the guests at the wedding of her daughter, Heidi O’Brien, and Mark Loomis by making a significant donation to Nurses House in lieu of individual gifts to wedding guests.

At a party to celebrate completing his doctorate, Dr. Edmund J. Y. Pajarillo asked friends to make a donation to Nurses House instead of bringing a gift. The fundraiser raised more than $8,000 for Nurses House. 

Sponsor a fundraising activity

In June, 2005, The Western NY Chapter of Nurses House, Inc. held its 4th Annual Golf Event. “We made almost $3,000 and have already put our deposit down for next year."

Nurses at Maimonides Medical Center, in Brooklyn, NY, passed the “cap” for Nurses House during their 2004 Nurses Week festivities. The nurses set up booths around the hospital and sold paper caps for nurses to wear on “cap day.” Afterwards, the hospital matched the nurses’ donation dollar for dollar. This year, Maimonides nurses did it again, and were even more successful. At a ceremony on August 25, 2005, Maimonides Senior VP for Nursing, Sondra Olendorf, presented a check to Nurses House for $5,000.
